Review: Dr. Wu Glutalight™ Whitening System

All the while growing up, we were taught that our skin must be fair and flawless, but let's face it, in this day and age, attaining fair skin is not as easy as it may seem. I myself have tried so many products, and I can tell you for a certainty that these products are more often than not don't really do what they're supposed to do.

Then I came across Dr. Wu's Glutalight™ Whitening System. Formulated with key Japanese-patented ingredient, Glutathione, the Dr.Wu Glutalight™ Whitening System is crafted to mimic the formation of whitening injections. The results from skincare products, as compared to an aesthetic treatment, may not be as quick. But compared to these whitening injections, it is definitely more affordable.


Dr. Wu's Glutalight™ Whitening System consists of four products, which are the Glutalight Intensive Whitening Essence Toner, Glutalight Intensive Whitening Serum, Glutalight Intensive Whitening Eye Serum, and the Glutalight Intensive Whitening Lotion. 

Apart from containing Glutathione, this range of products is also able to solve all melanin related issues at once, effectively decreasing the appearance of pigmentation while at the same time lightening dull and uneven skin tone. Getting to where they are today is not just a mere fluke. Extensive research done by Dr. Wu labs indicates that skincare has to be multi-faceted to target various pre-existing skin conditions and perform various functions simultaneously.

• It needs to PROTECT the skin from the damages of UV radiation and harmful free radicals. These are the main culprits in the degeneration and darkening of the skin.

So let's deep dive into each product and what it does (All products to be used in this order):

Glutalight Intensive Whitening Essence Toner 150ml (RM179)

A serum-like toner that can quickly achieve all-in-one whitening effect. The very first to use the revolutionary “Glutalight” formula, containing the Japanese patented Glutathione which uses AA2G, HerbEx Silybum Extract, Vitamins B3, B5, B6, and adds Allantoin to soothe skin, with whitening and moisturizing effects, effectively decrease the appearance of pigmentation and lightens dull and uneven skin tone. 

The texture of the product is not too watery, and has great viscosity upon application. Unlike most old-school toners, you don't have to apply it with a cotton. All you need to do is just pour some onto the palm of your hand, apply it onto your face in a patting motion. 

Glutalight Intensive Whitening Serum 15ml (RM169)

Packed with the highest concentration of whitening ingredients. It evens uneven skin tone and lighten dark spots, keeping you looking radiant within one bottle. The very first to use the revolutionary Glutalight whitening formula, containing Japanese patented Glutalight with AA2G, HerbEx Silybum Extract, Vitamins B3, B5, B6 and micro molecule Hyaluronic Acid to fully prevent production of melanin for a rapid and longer lasting whitening effect. 

This serum is a clear serum that has a slight creamy texture. With its list of ingredients, it stops melanin on every level, making it the complete whitener. When applied onto the skin, it's not too drying, and after fully absorbed, is so lightweight that I don't feel that my skin is overly saturated with the product. 

Glutalight Intensive Whitening Eye Serum 15ml (RM179)

A lightweight textured eye serum which uses the revolutionary Glutalight whitening formula containing the Japanese Patented Glutalight with AA2G, HerbEx Silybum Extract, Vitamins B3, B5, B6, micro molecule Hyaluronic Acid and Haloxyl to improve firmness and reduce the appearance of dark circles around the eye area. 

I love applying this product, because it is easily absorbed into the skin. It has a slight gel-like texture, and I don't feel it on my skin at all after application. For me, that is the beauty of the range, that it is super lightweight.

Glutalight Intensive Whitening Lotion 50ml (RM219)

A lotion with lightweight creamy texture, is the very first to use the Japanese-patented “Glutalight” whitening formula, along with AA2G, HerbEx Silybum Extract, Vitamins B3, B5, B6 and micro molecule Hyaluronic Acid, which can decrease the appearance of pigmentation and also soothe and moisturize the skin.

The Lotion itself is a little more creamy compared with the other three products, but having said that, it also spreads really easily and absorbs into the skin very quickly.

Dr. Wu's Daily Renewal Serum with Mandelic Acid 

Another hero product within the Dr. Wu arsenal is Dr. Wu's Daily Renewal Serum with Mandelic Acid. If you are not really sure what Mandelic Acid is, it is one of the mildest ways for us to fasten our skin metabolic rate, helping us to get rid of dead skin cells, hence allowing our acne scars or large pores to recover faster. Because it is a skin renewal product, this serum helps to improve skin tone, minimise pore size, and remove blackheads or whiteheads. 

For Dr. Wu, there are two serums available, which is the Daily Renewal Serum with a lower concentration of Mandelic Acid at 6% (for suitable or dry skin), and the Intensive Serum, which has 18% concentration of Mandelic Acid which is suitable for oily or combination skin.

The product itself is very simple to use, just apply it after cleansing, before you apply your toner, but only at night. It's also important to note to avoid using exfoliating products and also products containing AHA while using this serum as it has the same renewal functions. If you are using this product, please be sure to apply sunscreen and other hydrating products as well (such as those containing Hyaluronic Acid) in order to protect the skin from UV rays, sunburn, and aging.

Upon application, it feels like there is a bit of an oily texture, but all of that is absorbed into the skin, and you're left with soft skin that feels really plump after using. There really is none of the oily after-effect at all. 

So there you have it, the Dr. Wu Glutalight™ Whitening System, and the Dr. Wu Daily Renewal Serum. You might think that these products just serve a whitening purpose, but there are more facets to it than that. Each of them work to make your skin appear brighter, clearer, softer, more even and moisturised than ever. The addition of Vitamin B3, B5, B6, and HerbEx Silybum Extract also help to soothe, relieve, repair, protect and hydrate skin.
