11.11 is a date that holds many different meaning for everyone. For me, 11.11 holds a significant date as that is the date that le bb and I got together, many many many moons ago. For others, it’s known as Singles’ Day, after all, who needs a significant other in their life? However, more recently, the date 11.11 has come to bring a more interesting meaning to all shopaholics. It’s the date retail outlets offer huge discounts to their customers! All hail 1111 sales!
Of late, more and more outlets are jumping on the bandwagon and doing their shopping on this date as it is popularly known as the biggest sale event of the year.
Another somewhat big sale event is also Black Friday, which incidentally falls on 24 November this year. If you don’t know, Black Friday is the day following Thanksgiving Day in the United States (the fourth Thursday of November). Since 1952, it has been regarded as the beginning of the Christmas shopping season in the U.S., and most major retailers open very early (and more recently during overnight hours) and offer promotional sales. (source: Wikipedia) It only recently just gained popularity in Malaysia and lots of retail outlets also offer massive Black Friday deals in honour of this sale.
So of course, you can be sure I will be sitting in front of my laptop come Singles’ Day and Black Friday waiting for the discounts that will be on offer. But hold it! How do we decide that we’re getting the most bang for our buck?
What should we do? Well, here’s my top three tips:
1. Always add to your wishlist first
If there is an item you want to buy, add that to your wishlist first before the sale commences. A lot of sites out there has a wishlist button that you can click for the products that you want (like Althea Korea). Having a wishlist will allow you to see what items you want when the sale commences, and reduces the risk of forgetting to buy that one particular item that you want but forgot to “Add to Cart”. Believe me, I have blanked out before when a sale arrived and I completely zoned out and forgot what I wanted to buy. It is only AFTER the sale that I remember, and I always kick myself for it. So, wishlist it and list it good!
2. Keep track of the current available prices and compare when the sale starts
There are a few sites out there that are a little dodgy, and sometimes say it’s a reduced price, but actually lists the item for the same price. Because like it or not, these retailers are all businesses, and some of them DO resort to dirty tactics to ensure that they make a sale and profit from it. So if you have been eyeing a particular item, make sure you take note of the price first, and then when the sale comes around, compare to make sure that it really is a discount before you make your purchase.
Disclaimer: Not all sites are like that, only some
3. Keep an eye out for promotional codes
This is perhaps the most important of all. Some sites out there do offer additional discounts on top of already discounted items *cough*lazada*cough*zalora* So if you want further discounts, remember to check them out regularly, sign up for their newsletters, or go to ShopBack to see the many different promotional discount codes they have listed from their merchants, because more often than not, the codes listed there are valid to be used on top of already discounted items, so you save more money!
There you have it, my top three sales tips on how to ensure you use your money to its fullest potential! Are you ready for Singles’ Day and the official Black Friday sales yet?
I know I am! Happy Shopping guys!
Til the next time, stay beautiful!
xoxo,
yin
