Today I'm gonna be reviewing something I got recently at SaSa, and which I posted on my Instagram last week :p Can you guess which one?

Well, the title pretty much says it all, but if you said the Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Liner, then yes! You are absolutely right! :p
Front packaging
I was looking around for gel eyeliner for a change, as all I've ever had are pencils and liquids. While I love using liquid eyeliner and pencil liners are awesome to get a quick 'do ready, I thought having a gel liner would be nice since I never had one and I wanted to see how I feel about it. So I set about searching for affordable gel liners out there in the market, and finally settled with Maybelline's Lasting Drama Gel Liner.
Back packaging
Now, cosmetic companies like to lay claim to all sorts of stuff, but for me, waterproof and smudgeproof are extremely important as I have oily eyelids. One day, and you could probably fry half an egg with the amount of oil collected on my eyelids :p (Of course I jest, but you know what I mean).
The claim:
Last up to 36 Hours
More Intense
Waterproof
Smudgeproof
The product
It's nice that they have included an 'exclusive' eyeliner brush to help you along with the drawing of your eyes. I guess the bad thing about this would be that it's separate, unlike other brands like SilkyGirl who have the brush attached. But I guess it's because they wanted a longer handle for easier grip of the brush so that you can draw even strokes. The bad thing about having the brush as a separate item would be that you might lose it. But otherwise, if you DO lose it, you can easily use any angled eyeliner brush to line your eyes. I don't think it makes much of a difference.
The back of the product
This is how the brush looks. It's a simple brush that looks more like a lip brush actually :p but when I used it, it's actually quite good.
Finally....the gel liner!!
How the gel looks like in the bottle. I like how the bottle is shallow, and not deep like other brands. It will make it easier for me to pick up the remainder of the product after it has neared its end :p
And now, we move on to the swatches!
The first layer is a one-layer swatch, second line is two-layers, and the third line is drawn with the side of the brush, to try to create a thinner line. As you can see in the first line, the colour is already quite pigmented and dark, so you don't really need to draw another layer if you are satisfied with the colour. The third line, however, is not as thin as I would like. Though I seldom line my eyes thinly, I like to have a tip that I can wing my eyes properly and not make it look like a stubble.
The Waterproof test:
The swatch is taken after running it under water and wiping a little hard on it. So, if you run it under water and don't rub it, it will be quite hard to remove or smudge. Otherwise, I'm quite satisfied with the result as it doesn't smudge noticeably, and doesn't come off easily with water.
The Smudgeproof Test:
Well, technically it's not really a smudgeproof test considering I actually tried to rub it quite hard to see if it will really come off. The picture above is taken after three tries of removing the liner with tissue. Some of it has come off, but most of it is still there, and is quite dark, which is a plus point cos that would mean that I can apply it the whole day and not feel worried that I will need to touch up after that.
Even after rubbing it a few more times, it's still a bit hard to remove :p
So here's a close up of my lined eyes :) True to claims, it glides on smoothly and easily but lost much of its colour after a short while so I need to top up and start back halfway down my eye. Seeing as this is the first time I’m using a brush to apply my eyeliner and it’s my first gel eyeliner, it took me a while and a few tries to achieve the desired effect I wanted.
This is how my eyes looked like under direct sunlight when they're opened. Loving the effect :)
So as a conclusion, here is a summary:
Waterproof: if just under running water or rain and is dabbed off, it stays on.
Smudgeproof: pretty smudgeproof, after rubbing twice, only a little of the eyeliner came off, and even after two rounds of wiping with the tissue, most of it is still on.
Staying power: Even after a long day, it doesn’t disappear (especially considering I have oily eyelids). It does smudge a little at the bottom, but not too much that it's noticeable.
Rating: 8/10
Repurchase: YES
Last Comments: I don’t need to use a lot of the gel for the application of both my eyes, so I think I might be using this for quite a while. I have a feeling this will be one of my favourite gel liners in the long run, except of course when I need to draw thinner lines or when I’m on the go :p
Maybelline’s Lasting Drama Gel Liner is available at all Watsons, Guardians, Caring, SaSa (actually everywhere lah) for RM39.90 apiece.
I got mine at a 20% discount at SaSa cos they’re having a sale now. So I only paid RM31.80 for it :D
Til the next time, stay beautiful!
