It wasn't a professional fighting event, unlike OneFC as it caters only for amateurs, and with the tagline "Now Everyone Can Fight", it literally means, everyone who is a Malaysian citizen, would be able to fight in this Championship. Techniques were not as good as we would have seen in the professional fights, but these Malaysians truly showed heart and courage, and are all winners in their own right.
Jason Lo, CEO of Tune Talk who is the proud creator of MIMMA said the idea for a local reality show on MMA was spurred by passion for the sport after watching Ultimate Fighting Championship and ONE Fighting Championship. Speaking at the event, Jason Lo said, “It is the Semi-Finals and I can’t believe we have come this far in the competition! The fights are getting more intense as fighters level up their game. This is a critical week as it guarantees them a spot at the finals. Everyone here is excited!”
Also present at the semifinals was MIMMA FC co-creator YB Khairy Jamaluddin, our newly appointed Minister of Youth and Sports.
“We would like to see more Malaysians get involved and excel in sports and MIMMA FC is a great avenue for youths out there to prove their skills and capabilities. Being the fastest growing sport in the world, it is crucial that we nurture and develop local talents in MMA from now and we hope to see more Malaysian MMA Champions at the regional and global levels.” according to him.
Ring Girl Winner #1: Lisha Ho
Not only were the crowd given an adrenaline boost from the fights, the guys were also very happy when MIMMA’s Top 20 Ring Girls sizzled the ring with their alluring and sexy catwalks. These 20 girls were selected through MIMMA’s Ring Girl Search Contest on Facebook.
Ring Girl Winner #2: Merveen Tan
The two newly appointed Ring Girls, Merveen Tan and Lisha Ho, will be officially working their ring cards at the MIMMA Grand finals. On top of that, each of them gets cash prize of RM 5,000 and will be featured in FHM Malaysia magazine.
Moving on to the fights, I apologize beforehand as I don't have much pictures of the fight itself cos my camera is not made to take nice pictures with zoom :( But having said that, I have recorded some fights, and you can take a look at them below :)
Keanu Subba (brother of OneFC Fighter, Gianni Subba) getting ready to get into the ring. Keanu defeated his opponent, Naimul Amal, via Rear Naked Choke, within minutes in the first round.
Allen Chong (budak Sabah) is the crowd favourite for the Lightweight category. He defeated Zeus Lim by unanimous judges decision, but for a moment there, I thought he wouldn't make it cos Zeus was good as well.
