Sushi Tei @ Setia Alam Mall, Shah Alam

Growing up, I have never really tried sushi before, even when Sushi King first opened its doors when a major shopping mall opened in my hometown.

But I made my way to KL, and after several tries of eating raw fish, I have decided that sushi is actually quite pleasing to the palate, and the preparation of Japanese food is a delicate art. There are not many good Japanese places around, but one outlet that I have found to be quite reputable is Sushi Tei. Their food is tasty, and you can see there is quality in the preparation.

Therefore it is needless to say that when Sushi Tei opened its newest branch in Setia Alam Mall, Shah Alam, I made my way over there to try it out with a bunch of people :)

One of the things I love about their sashimi dishes are that  their fish slices are really big, and worth the money. They are thick, and when dipped into the wasabi sauce, it is a very satisfying appetizer :)

Salmon also goes well with the soba, which was a refreshing experience for me, as this is my first time tyring cold soba :)

Collagen Salmon Roll - RM23.80

All girls know that collagen is good for the skin, so be sure to order this if you're at Sushi Tei :) the collagen film is quite thick, and I am sure will work wonders for your skin :) But I'm still wondering how they harvest the collagen? hmm..

Hotate Teriyaki - RM 9.80

I don't really have a very good command of Japanese, but I think Hotate means clams :/ I'm not very sure, so don't kill the messenger :p but nevertheless, this hotate teriyaki is a must try dish. It's chewiness goes very well with the Jap's signature teriyaki sauce :)

The omnipresent chawanmushi, a familiar Japanese favourite at all Japanese restaurants. This dish was smooth, not too hot, and very easy to swallow.

I didn't manage to try this Choya, but from the looks of my frens who were having it, I would say that it is a drink you should try when you want to enjoy some pure Japanese delicacy

Soft shell crab

Another Japanese favourite which you can seldom find elsewhere, is the soft shell crabs. These crabs are delicious and can either be taken individually as above, or wrapped with other condiments :)

King Tiger Prawns topped with Mentai

For those of you who do not know, mentai is cod roe (cod fish eggs). I took one dish, and I was blown away. Would have loved more, but the cholesterol would kill me T.T

Tori Karaage Japanese Fried Chicken

Yes, another Japanese specialty! the skin is crispy, and the meat is tender, what more can you ask for? :)

Takoyaki

These are squids (or sotong, as more commonly known). They burst in your mouth like little bullets, and has a certain chewiness that makes you want more, instead of less. There was not much fishy seafood-ish taste, so this is a thumbs up for me :)

Beef Teriyaki

This is a dish you need to order when you're there. Why? cos it's cooked to perfection. The meat wasn't too tough, and when you bit into it, the juices pour into your mouth like heaven on earth :p Oh and it goes very well with the fried garlic too :)

Various sushi off the kaiten belt at Sushi Tei (above and below)

We were spoilt for choice when these dishes came out. One thing I like about Suhi Tei was that their sushi actually tasted more filling than the average sushi, as if it had more ingredients inside.

Maki

Fish Roe Fried Rice

If you're not so much a fan of sushi, they also have a selection of fried rice and cooked meals for you :) Do try out Sushi Tei's Fish Roe Fried Rice. Cooked without much oil, there were generous amounts of fish roe on top of the stir fried rice.

An assortment of sashimi, the seafood platter

One of the things I love about Sushi Tei is that their sashimi is very fresh. This is a personal concern to me as I wouldn't want to experience stomach problems after consuming them. I finished the prawns and salmon from my side of the table :p

Couldn't remember the name of the drink :( but it was refreshing and I downed it within half an hour! :) I think it was Summer sth :p

bb's Ocha blended :) had a very distinct green tea taste to it, perfect for Green Tea lovers

Deep fried chicken skin!!!!! This is a specially made menu for us, and the whole table just kept munching away :) There were salmon skins as well, but didn't manage to snap a picture of it :(

To cap off our already delightful evening, we were treated to a bowl of ice cream :) This was their Green Tea and Yam flavour, which was really flavourful, and smooth to the taste. It was an awesome end to a great evening :)

Sushi Tei gave me a new opinion of conveyor belt Japanese eateries. Always thought they were boring and blah but when I was there with you guys, Iw as impressed. Smitten!
